Rich was just a play on words with his name really but is very much a ‘half bottle full’ song suggesting that we appreciate the half bottle/what we have...

A song written for a friend, Richard, who was 'down on his uppers' and asked me to write something to cheer him up and lift his spirits. Richard had started to lose hope but had forgotten that his friends called him 'Rich' and rich he was and is because he has life and where there is life there is hope ! Rich was just a play on words with his name really but is very much a ‘half bottle full’ song suggesting that we appreciate the half bottle/what we have. It asks that we hang on in there and maybe even, ‘Get a telegram from the Queen’ if we reach that wonderful age. It began as a poem but then became a song. ‘Rich’ made him laugh thank goodness and he’s still with us waiting for that telegram maybe one day...

Rich, you are rich

and it is rich that you don’t know how rich you are

Richard

Rich beyond your wildest dreams

lifes not as bad as it sometimes seems

You’ll get a telegram from the Queen

If you hang on in there Rich,

poor old Rich

and the rich will always rob people like Rich

‘cos people like Robin Rich

but who needs money when you’re rich ?

Rich by name and rich by nature

Rich beyond your wildest dreams

life’s not as bad as it sometime seems

You’ll get a telegraph from the Queen

If you hang on in there hang on in there...

I was an architect originally but then re-trained as a teacher of Art and Design Technology. I used to paint before all of that and have always written songs and performed in bands such as the Digital Dinosaurs, Crokodile Tears and more recently the Trees. When I went down to part-time teaching in 2010 I began painting again after a 35 year break ! Then when I retired in 2015 I devoted myself to my art/s. I have had exhibitions of my work at the Coventry Telegraph ‘pop-up’ Gallery, the Undercrofts, Moira’s Wet Fish Shop (yes that one with Mary Courtney!)and the Temperance in Leamington Spa.
